Full time monitoring/project coverage activities provide Clients with continuous in- depth progress information and immediate action by the expediter as soon as problems are detected, ensuring that schedules are maintained in line with the relevant project planning. For full time expediting needs, whether for an individual order or for a specific project, a dedicated expediter will be assigned to directly liaise with the Client ensuring the most effective line of communication.
Performed to ensure or evaluate the authenticity of the information from desk expediting. The assigned expeditor will physically visit the vendor premises and discuss all issues, status & progress and verify/ensure the information provided are correct. Any anomalies detected will be discussed, to take adequate recovery plans to overcome the problem. The details will be reported at the completion of each visit and even provide a closeout call to Client, prior to leave the premises. Field Expediting can be split into – Periodic and Full time Full time expediting at vendor location will become viable after analysing the criticality and/or strategy of the project, to avoid possible delays (Fast Truck Project), to deploy recovery plans, to keep the project on track or to avoid further inconveniences. The need for full time expediting needs to be agreed with Client, also based on the results from Desk & Periodic Expediting reports, as applicable.
Expediting coordination and management are provided to Client when whole project supplies or part of it are assigned and several expeditors are involved in the field and/or desk and/or full time monitoring expediting activities. Both the APEC (Agency Project Expediting Coordinator) and/or PSCM (Project Supplies Chain Manager) join the Project Task Force anywhere it will be based (either c/o Client or Agency facilities). These figures are also provided as specialized personnel at Client request, and it might not be linked to project awarding.
Desk/telephone expediting provides a valuable tool for monitoring the progress of order completion. Contacts are established at specific milestones in the fabrication process and a summary of status obtained. An experienced expediter can assess whether the order completion is progressing according to plan or other measures are required to verify and possibly improve work progress. Desk/telephone expediting is best used as a tool to supplement field expediting. It is also a useful way of making the vendor aware that delays on the order will not be accepted by their Client.
It is an essential part of any order and plays a vital role in the smooth running and successful completion of any projects within a scheduled timeframe. Expediting helps to ensure that the vendor delivers the order to the Client on time through timely follow ups on the production progress to avoid any unexpected delays, analyse any difficulties to take swift recovery actions.
